I am no expert but I believe you are incorrect in your assumption. Brian over at German-Helmets.com has a page that says it was developed and tested in August of 1918. The German cease-fire did not take effect until November 11, 1918. It also says the helmet was proven successful and the Germans had planned to manufacture another 100,000 of them, but the armistice on November 11 put a halt on production. It also says the lids that were produced were stored, repainted and then reissued in 1940. Who knows which cut-outs saw action but it sure sounds to me that some did, and who's to say which ones... I'm just paraphrasing Brian's website(and I've already gained approval from him in the past to do that, he's been a great help to me), but there are member's here who will know for sure so please correct me if I am wrong.

Hello Flash!
It's possible, but even if some of these helmets were issued, who knows witch one had been in the front and which one hadn't... But I read in a guide book from Delprado Editions that said that these helmets weren't issued because the war's end arrived befor the issue. But there are so many opinions...
thank you very much flash!

Just managed to get a second one , ....who said they are hard to find? (loool)
Now you're just showing-off stuka... lol
Without giving away your sources, do you mind sharing how you came across this beauty? I'm green with envy!
EDIT- what did you pay for it?
EDIT- regarding wartime use... stuka this isn't the same lid as the one you posted HERE right? Those cracks on the first one almost look like battle damage. What do you think?
Hey flash developer,
Yes, ...I am showing-off... ;-)...
I do like these helmets a lot, I had one in my primary collection, also a dug up, the worst helmet of my collection(at that time) and it was the last one I did sold back then.
It isn't the same one as the one I posted earlyer!
Both came up on eBay germany.
I payed 300 € for thise one.
I might sell the previous one at the price I payed thise one as soon as the second one comes in.
cheers

Sorry, I forgot to answer one question;
I don't think the cracks are battle damages, I think they where dumped in "big holes", coverd with sand, the pression of the sand and the bulldozers runing over them would make them deforme or crack...
Just my opinion....
