Well, I found out what this is. It is called a "PRINCE" EK. It was used in place of a full sized EK when a soldier wanted to display his medals. The interesting thing is that it is worth MORE than a standard EK! Quite rare, I imagine, although the guy who gave me this info has 3-4 of them, including EK1. So if you run across one BUY IT.

FURTHER UPDATE: If you go to "derrittmeister" website you will see an example of my Cross ( although much nicer than mine - for over $600.00! ) It is called a "PRINZENGROSSE" which means Prinze's size. It is very interesting reading if you are interested in EK - and who isn't? Isn't it funny how my old beat up Iron Cross went from being an object that was nearly worthless to being worth a few hundred, anyway?
