Was at 350.00 USD about 20 seconds before the auction was up. Someone dumped in a 490.00 GBP bid and then another one for 721.00 GBP secured it for one happy bidder.
I felt odd. Was happy to have been ready to pull the trigger on something that was legitimate (was reassured by the big bids), but disappointed in how little clue I had about what this vicious last minute bidding would entail.
Any ideas on how well the victor made off? About 1200.00 USD on this PLM.

Big bids should offer you no assurances as to authenticity. Realize that it can simply be the mark of careless, easily duped people.

If the piece is authentic, like a bandit. While I am in no place to judge the authenticity of one of these pieces, My guess based on circumstantial evidence is that it not authentic. If this seller had a real example and knew it, he or she would not accept the $1200 winning bid. The thing could be sold for more than that.
This bit in the add makes me suspicious...
"I don't know anything about it, or when it was made. The description is from what I have found using reference books and hopefully it's a correct description of this item but whatever the item is in the photograph is the one that you are bidding on and will receive so please look carefully.
I did about an hour's worth of research on what I could find as I panicked that the auction was soon to be over with. (This was enough for me to spend 350.00, but not any more than that). The eagles seem right, and of high quality. They're all facing the right direction. The maker's mark seems legitimate and in the right place.
It could be that the seller didn't know the right price value of one.

That is disconcerting. Sort of like "buy what you see, I know nothing."
IMO It's a really nice looking fake.
I believe that original Godet marked PLMs have a very narrow
center where the arms join together. (although there is some
debate about this)
Another thing that looks off to me is the eagles. Look at the detail
where the tail feathers start and compare them to the two
excepted versions of the Godet PLM pictured below.
