Default WW1 German hats? I am not sure, I need information on them, please help.

Hello, here is Julekpl again, this time, I am in need of assistance with 2 of what I believe are ww1 German hats, but I am not sure. One is in rather terrible condition, the whole liner along the inside is falling apart, and the "cardboard" lining is broken in a few spots. The other seems to be in much better condition, although the company name for this one is a bit hard to read. Any information would be helpful, I appreciate it

Here is the worse condition hat: WW1 German hats? I am not sure, I need information on them, please help.

Here is the company info in the worse condition hat: WW1 German hats? I am not sure, I need information on them, please help.

Julekpl, the second cap is definetly Imperial, a Prussian Officers peaked service cap, a "Dienstmutze" being a pre-1897 as no national cockade is fitted, just a "Prussian" double ringed Officer cockade on the band, the cap is made of dark blue (Dunkelblau) uniform wool, its black band and red piping indicating a specialist arm of service, Artillery, Pioneer, or other technical services, as most caps sported a red band and piping for the Infantry. IMO the first one is not Imperial, looks to me to be either Third Reich period or possibly 1920'S Reichswehr, you would be better posting the first cap here... "Cloth headgear, German Militaria 1933-45" I am sure they will be able to give you more information.
    Prost ! Steve.

The first one is Third Reich era. Heer Artillery. Note the special air vent which would be behind the cap cockade.

    Cheers, Ade.

    Hi

first cap is a German army, post 1936, artillery officers cap....it has red piping and the dark green cap band.

it is made made by a company with the logo EREL.aka robert lubstein of berlin. This company had a patent on a special vented cockade that went on front of the cap to allow cool air to come onto the wearers forhead to prevent a n unseemly red mark across the forehead when the cap was taken off.

The vented cockade was put over the black grommet in the picture. Very desirable caps then and now ! the cap is aprivate purchase one and the owner would have to paid extra for the vented cockade. caps came in several classes, 140,standard,extra and privat. the type of class will be found under the celluloid on the cap crown.

    hope that helps...

Oh thank you Spandau, and everyone else. Unfortunately, the lining in the hat has been broken in quite a few spots, and the lining has been ripped in many places along the inside of the cap. I would rate it as poor in my opinion...such is the fate of many historical objects.
