Who leaves him now , be damned forever.

I have a few WWI German ID tags and would like to learn more about them, is there an on line source for additional information, or a book which I could buy?

Georg, no books that i know of, dedicated to just Imperial dog tags, however all is not lost, try to hunt down a copy of 'The Imperial German Regimental Marking' by Jeff Noll, a private published book that with a bit of time can found on the net, try Amazon or AB books, or try Noll's website incase he is reprinting.
