    I found this in the pocket of the WW1 Canadian 2CMR Tunic I posted last week.
    A small bit of cloth in an envelope with writing on it, I can make most of it out..but some words are faded and unclear.
    I think it is a neat bit of history, and I love finding this sort of thing.

    Hi Dean, dont know how much of this you can make out, something on the lines of, WE SAVED ONE OF THESE,AND THANKS T YOU WILL ---- IT IS MADE OF PAPER,"HURRAH FOR IRELAND" ---- FRITZ. THEY KINDLY ERECTED THE ---- AND WE WERE ---- IN WHEN I GOT THE BEST BAG. cheers Willie.

    This is a piece of Ersatz Papiergarn. It was used as a substitute for cloth and leather. All sorts of things were made from it, sandbags, harness, POW shirts and trousers, gasmask slings, rifle slings, shoulder straps, canteen covers, on and on. I have two German sandbags made from it. One has the original manufacturer's label still on it. It was fashioned into a bag by one of the many hundreds of cottage industries that did hand sewing work.

    Thanks for showing that museum cover I've a thought the bag maybe British? I'd love to see it one day for myself.
