Very interesting. Am I reading the letter correctly? Does it say it is made of paper?

This is a piece of Ersatz Papiergarn. It was used as a substitute for cloth and leather. All sorts of things were made from it, sandbags, harness, POW shirts and trousers, gasmask slings, rifle slings, shoulder straps, canteen covers, on and on. I have two German sandbags made from it. One has the original manufacturer's label still on it. It was fashioned into a bag by one of the many hundreds of cottage industries that did hand sewing work.
