A bit rough, but it looks like a really nice sword.
'Ges Gesch' - Gesetzlich Geschutzt - translates
as something similar to Trade Mark or
There should be a maker mark or logo on the
blade at the ricasso near the guard.........
Sorry I do not see any markers ! Perhaps it's wore off ...blade is in rough shape but neat for a find !...paid $200 I guess that's not too bad ? I'm guessing it's german as I now see above the crown design a pointed tip as like he ones on the old imperial helmets
I like it, and think you did Very well for $200.........!
Thanks couldn't resist ! I assume it's a imperial era presentation sword ? For the marines?
Thanks for your help ! I posted the other sword I with it on another post...no idea what it is
I wouldn't say presentation, and not 'Marines' IMO.
It's missing it's grip wire and a lot of the gilt
finish is gone, but still a good Imperial
Thanks for the help ! Came straight from a basement ..someone had attached a string to it as a holder..love these basement finds as always
I hesitate to suggest you use fine steel wool on
the blade to remove some of the surface rust.
Though some would frown on it, it will look
better if gently cleaned - but not so far
as to remove any of the etch.........
Yes it's difficult ...however I hate taking it out of the scabbard and hurt the etching so maybe I'll find a way to display without putting the scabbard on . .especially since it is leather material
