    Default Polish Russian Officer ~1880's-1904

My great great grandfather, Josef Szumlinski, was said to be a Captain in the Army. We have assumed it was the Russian Army, since he lived in Zuromin and Radzanow, towns in the Polish part of Russia in the time period of 1835 (appx. year of his birth) and 1904, the year he died in Radzanow.

Can anyone confirm this from these photographs of him?

I would like to find out more about his service during this time period. Do any records exist?

I have reference that a certain "Shumlinskii" was awarded the order of St. Anne 2nd class on 23 Dec. 1811. I don't have his position, whether he was civil or military, or first name.

The archive for the Russian Imperial Army (RGVIA) exists in Moscow and can answer pretty reliably regarding officers. Try a web search or the VGD Russian genealogy forum. All Russia Family Tree. Ðîññèéñêàÿ ãåíåàëîãèÿ.
