    Question Russian uniform around 1918/19

This is my great grandfather. All I know is that the picture was taken probably around 1918/19 in St. Petersburg, Russia.

Would be great to know what rank was he and what kind of uniform is it, White army or Russian empire army? Any info much appreciated. Thanks.

Hi, and welcome to the forum!

I can only advise on his rank: he was a Senior Lieutenant.

    Cheers, Ade.

Question Re: Russian uniform around 1918/19

And finally I also have this picture, which was probably taken before 1917. The back of the photograph states St. Petersburg, and no date however between 1914 and 1917 the city was called Petrograd. Maybe they still used the old back for the photograph. The photograph was possibly taken around the time when my grandma was born in 1916.

Will be really fascinating to find out as much as possible about my great granddad's military history.

    Many thanks,
    Normi

Doing some further research I found this website. According to this, there were Lieutenants TABLE OF RANKS OF THE RUSSIAN EMPIRE

The Roman number XII (XIII) on the shoulder-strap possibly represents a Lieutenant's rank. I'm not sure whether I got it right though.

First image: poruchik wears British made tunic of the White army of Aleksander Kolchak in Siberia (1918-1919), Russian civil war.

Not sure - XIII probably refers to 13 Siberian Rifle Division?

Second image: he wears his winter uniform.
