Man S&H is ugly as hell.
Fischer, old mate. What's you take on the variant catch plate? Could it be the more usual rectangular type trimmed down? The width of it looks different from yours though. Stewy
My opinion on the plate is it's most likely an afterthought to ease with the attachment of the catch. I also considered these examples with this catch variation the earliest of the hollow zinc examples.
As you know the tombak examples directly soldered the round wire catch to the hollow reverse.
With the transition to zinc as a base material, they must have experienced some problems with this type of connection.
With a plate it allows for a larger coupling area.
In regards to the plate size, trimmed down, etc. I think the difference we see here between the two badges is just random variation.
Best Regards, fischer
Thanks for the info mate. Stewy
Hi Stewy,
A beauty my friend!!! I am sure your pics do not do justice to that little bugger. After all these years I think it's time for an scanner or, at least, a new camera
Best regards.
