    Hi Guys

I have had several inquiries about my avatar and thought I would post it here.

His name is Hauptmann Friedrich Konrad Winkler and he was born on the 22nd of August, 1909 in Worms (a city situated on the Rheine river).
He took command of the 6th company in his Regiment during the fighting in Barrikady Gun Factory in northern Stalingrad.
The Grenadier-Regiment 577 was destroyed in January 1943.

Friedrich Konrad Winkler was captured in Stalingrad in February and died soon after, at the age of 34. The date is said to be sometime between February 8-10, 1943 at POW Camp "Be****wka".

In regards to his broken Infanterie Sturmabzeichen, I have heard this story a few times. Some think the wreath portion was broken off as a tribute to a fallen comrade and was placed in the grave. This is speculation I know, but I have come across Infanterie Sturmabzeichen's with the wreath section missing. Of course, it could also have been from the riggers of combat that caused the damage.

    Best Regards, fischer

I have a BH Mayer that is half way there. The wreath is separated from the buttstock.

Perhaps it was a just a trendy thing to do? I could see how it would get annoying to hear your assault badge clanging against your wound badge all day.

I have a number of ISA we have found at Narva and one from Stalingrad all with similar damage i think it was just a common type of combat damage to this particular badge.
