Sorry if this is the wrong place, I couldn't find a better section

From a bit of research I think I have a cap badge of the 29th Regiment of Foot. These are the chaps responsible for, among other things, the Boston massacre in 1768.

Being raised in/around Boston myself, I find this very interesting! Thanks for sharing

Lots of restrikes of this type of badge around and hard to tell just from a photo unless you really know your stuff, which sadly I don't. What size is it, cap, collar, or ?

If you get no joy here, you could try the british & commonwealth military badge forum.

Hi Jerry, it's for a hat I reckon, probably about 2.5 inches across.

I'm pretty sure it isn't a restrike, I've had a good few and I have a good feel for them I think. The weight is nice and it's real brass with a good smell.

Funnily enough, one way to tell is by feel. Sounds like you have a good one then.

Speaking of the Boston Massacre, I don't think the 29th Regiment of Foot should be blamed. They were only defending themselves from a hostile crowd. If I was in their shoes, I would have fired upon the colonist just the same... and that is coming from a US citizen. haha

I've got to say I agree having read about it since digging out this badge, a bad situation inside a bad situation. I don't think my badge is from exactly that period, I think it is 19th century but interesting nonetheless.

    Thanks for the comments guys
