I have determined it to be a Navy sweetheart silk handkerchief, but im not sure of anything else besides that. I believe it to be WWII, as it belonged to my grandma. She not only served as a nurse, but she also dated a Navy sailor who ended up being my grandpa. Im not sure if this is from him, though it is my best guess. (This is only one of three. There are also a green and yellow one and all three are identical. I display the wings with it, I did not get them together)

it boggles the mind to think what probably has made it's way to the landfills over the years and decades.

a good thing that you came along when you did.

The US Naval Aviator 'Sweetheart' wings are an older

It looks like it was embroidered by hand... Someone must have cared for someone very much..
It is a shame some people have forgotten the sacrifices made by "All" warriors...Either side..
Men and women in the armed forces in any conflict are Mothers, Fathers, Uncles , Aunts and Brothers and Sisters to others... Regardles of the conflict... Just my two cents....Nice item.... Glad you could preserve it...Gwar
