Ahhh... Too good. I was hoping I would stump at least one person.
Yep, "The Thunderbirds" for sure and a symbol that was quickly changed as a matter of expediency when WWII came along! Just like several British regiments that had Prussian eagles as their insignia at the start of WWI!
However, this patch having a merrowed edge is surely a modern reproduction is it not?

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing he cares more about than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature with no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."
A very good example for people who think the swastika was designed by Adolf!
Not to mention it was quite popular in the 20's in America, wasn't it?

You're right GWAR. HPL2008 is watching over us!
About the shown insignia: this was once mentioned
in the "Uniformen-Markt". Cannot remember when
it was published, but when I come across, I will
scan and post it!
Maybe HPL2008 or someone else knows when it was
in the "UM"!
In some Asian countries one stumbles over the swastika.
A friend of mine has a boarding-pass from a few years
ago (I thought Nepal or so). It has a swastika stamp on it.
And amusing it is! I never tire of seeing the much maligned "Swas" on everything from Victorian tea pot trivets via The Carlsberg Brewery elephants to Indian wedding cakes and the reactions of the people who think they have found part of Hitlers tea service or neo-nazi nuptials

A nice article about the swastika on the BBC website How the world loved the swastika - until Hitler stole it - BBC News
