I have no experience in these matters and need help identifying these British badges. What units and from what type period?

These are certainly not British badges.

I wonder if they might be Italian?

I agree, certainly not British. I think they are Italian helmet badges.

Italian they are, if not mistaken the second is for Sappers/Engineers and third for Infantry.
First is Motor Transport.

I'd thought signals, but referring to a book I can see a similar badge for Motor Transport (as Tom suggests)
