Flight jacket patch?????? era?????

I have no idea about this.....help, lol.....thanks in advance everyone! It is cloth,I believe...almost feels like carpet....lol....

Looks like something someone would sew on a "Sea jacket" or tourist garb..... Where did this come from?

I got with a patch collection from a WW2 vet. He lives in Philly area and keeps giving his son stuff to sell.....this was part of it.

The only thing I can offer is something you probably already know - sea jacket, sea bag, or patch in general to sew on something that signifies being in the "middle east" or close to it...
