Help Identifying British patches

Hello,

I need help identifying the patches shown below. They came from my dad's collection and I believe most date to WWII era. Thanks in advance for your help

KRR Kings Royal Rifles, RE Royal Engineers, RAOC Royal Army Ordenance Corps, RASC Royal Army Service Corps, cross flags=Royal Signals, cross rifles =Maksman, blue pip goes above , RAC Royal Armoured Corps, REME Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers , CD Civil Defence. The top set are various Specialist insignia, i cant remember the rest but im sure someone will either correct me of add info

You've got a very nice set of shoulder flashes, skills badges and trades badges there mate, with one oddity thrown in for good measure.
They could be from any time span from 1939 onwards.
I'll work down from top to bottom and left to right as looking at the photo;

Row1 (All specialist proficiency badges)
BG = Bren Gunner: C = Group C tradesman: DM = Driver/Maintenance: L = Gunlayer RA: LG = Lewis Gunner/LMG gunner: MG: = Medium Machine Gunner Marksman

Row2 (All specialist proficiency badges)
MT = Motor Transport: P = Plotting Room Personnel - RA: S = Surveyor - RA: SP = Specialist Proficiency: G = Gunner 1st class RTC/RTR: GG = Ground Gunner

Row 3: (Regiment/Corps shoulder loop flashes)
ACC = Army Catering Corps: HG = Home Guard: KRR = ??: RAOC = Royal Army Ordnance Corps: RASC = Royal Army Service Corps

Row 4: (Trades/Qualification badges)
CD = Civil Defence: Cannon badge is Royal Artillery, (?Grade): REME Fitter/Articifer: Signals qualified personnel, (instructor if worn on UPPER arm): Crossed Swords = Qualified PT Instructor: Crossed Rifles = Rifle marksman: 4point star = ?

Row 5: (Trades/Qualification badges)

REME = Royal Electrical & Mechanical Engineers (shoulder flash): Wireless Operator: "Bomber badge" = ??: WLA = ??: Red on (?)Black patch = Wireless Operator: Shoulder Flash = ??: "WWI tank badge" = OR's shoulder flash, RTR


Bottom left group of 5 divisional shoulder flashes, ??Units

Red on Khaki crossed cannons and the one next to it are both, I believe, Royal Artillery flashes

The final group of 5 badges in the bottom right corner are, I believe all drivers proficiency badges of various grades. HOWEVER, the all khaki wheel is, I believe that of a wheelwright.

The "oddity" that I mentioned above is the "silver star on the (?)black circular ground. If this is a genuine patch, it is the rank badge for a WWII German Army Oberschutze or senior Private!!


As usual, I am willing to stand corrected by others more knowledgeable than me, but I am pretty sure that I have identified the ones specified correctly for you.

As I said, all in all, a very nice set.

cross flags=Royal Signals,

Sorry mate, crossed flags is NOT Royal Signals, the badge identifies SIGNALS QUALIFIED personnel in NONE Royal Signals units. If it is worn on the UPPER arm, (above any rank), it shows the wearer is a Signals Instructor. (I know, "I was that soldier"....As was my brother and as is now my son!)

Yes Ian you are quite right i should worded my post more carefully, as i wore one in the TA, did mine at Blandford, but i was a Royal Signaller as you can no doubt tell as im not making myself very clear, strength 2 at the most

PS: I did my Signals course at Imphal Barracks in York with 1st Yorks Vols, (a LONG time ago, just as Clansman was taking over from Larkspur, just after tin cans and string!!)

What I should have added, is that a fair few of these badges are STILL IN USE with the British Army:

ie: The MG in wreath, now recognises a "machine gun marksman" OR Machine Gun Sustained Fire Controller.
Crossed Swords, PT Instructor
Crossed Flags, signals qualified personnel
Crossed Rifles, marksman
Hammer & Pincers, REME Fitter/Articifer

There are also quite a few others that are still in use, hence why I originally said any time span from about 1939 onwards.
