I will post up these 9th div patches here as well. I have never seen any official documentation or evidence of why these were made and why they were never issued, but they are a cool looking patch and it would have been great to see them in use

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but they are a fake/fantasy patch made in Pakistan. Apparently (So the story goes) there was talk during the desert campaign by the British brass that they wanted us to ditch the unit patches and wear divisional patches as our colour patch system was far too confusing for them. I think designs were drawn up to have these made and had we continued fighting along side them and through the Italy and European campaigns instead of coming home to fight the Japs, I'd say there is a fair chance we may well have worn patches just like these.
I remember when these came on the market a few years back there was a lot of debate about them but the guy who was having them made was eventually caught out, He obviously did a bit of research though and knew the 8th was out of the picture as he was only selling 6th 7th and 9th division patches.

Regardless of their authenticity they are still a cool looking patch, hopefully you didn't pay too much for them.

Cheers mate, I would rather know the truth than sit and wonder is it real or not. I often thought they were fake but was never sure, even when I posted them before no one really knew. I got these from O.S a few years ago and paid about $20 for them, still 20 bucks i could spend on something else
I have however seen the 6th div ones for sale for a few hundred dollars on an Australian auction site, glad I didnt buy them!

You got it, they are dodgy scammers. I use to frequent their auctions on line but never bought any thing thankfully.Since seeing his German helmets in person at the Adelaide militaria show i stay well clear
