    Default Recent Cap Badge Buys

Been busy expanding my tiny cap badge collection this week, now totalling 4.

First, is a RASC Cap Badge, which according to my research (and some help from a friend) comes from the era of 1916-1936. Found at a local market

Second pick up this week, a Royal Engineers Badge, with an "M" on it. According to what little I could find, and what I've been told (by a knowledgeable local collector/historian), the M may stand for Malta, though it is somewhat controversial, possibly standing for "Mechanized". Can anyone shed any light on this? I'll post better pictures once I have it in hand. Seems to also be from the era of King George V, though it's hard to tell from the tiny photo.

The RASC did not come into existence until after the end of WWI when they were awarded the Royal for their services in the war and prior to that they were just the ASC.

The ASC and RASC compared, note the RASC is a theater made sand cast version which is very poorly made, but nicely worn.

Actually it is for the RE Militia and would date to between 1910 and 1916.

Thanks, you've been of great help. I couldn't find anything myself, until you've identified it. Now I can dig into the details somewhat.

Any idea of value? (Curious if I overpaid, at 25GBP)

Well, if it is RE Militia as I think (I know I said actually, but I am only assuming and could not find an image of it), it would be a very uncommon badge and the price you paid might well be a very good price, possibly a real bargain. I could only find a description of it so I cannot be 100% on it. Can you show the reverse please?
