    Default U.S. jumpwing information please....

    Fellow collectors,
I just picked up a pair of U.S. jump wings at a local flea market and I need some background information. They are basic jump wings, WWII type, with a solid back (not stamped) with pin and clasp. In relief in a circle on the back of the parachute are the words STERLING BY (G)RBER". I believe the first letter is a "G" but could be an "O".
I could not find any information about this maker on the web, or really any maker for that matter. My question is : Is this a WWII issued set of jumpwings or 50's vintage medal? Any information anyone can furnish would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

    Cricketchris,
These are the best closeups I could get on my aging camera. Hope they are good enough.

What a great find for only $5................!

I think it is an earlier badge, and very rare with this makers mark !
This is the first para badge I've come across displaying this maker.
It is occasionally seen on USAAF wings.

The letters are in a circle to reflect the 'Orb' aspect of the name and form a logo of sorts.

After a time the Orber company shared it's manufacturing dies with others and the
'Orber' name was obliterated. It appears as a mass of metal on later wings
where only the company name has been scratched out of the die.

I also think some collectors would pay $100.00 and possibly more for this pin !
    Regards,

    Steve.
