U.S. Naval Dog Tag

Not sure where to post this, so I put it here.

I have a 1942 U.S. Navy dog tag that appears to be made of silver. It makes the same sound as a silver dollar when dropped on the table.

Does anyone know if these were ever made of silver?

Also, has anyone ever seen one with an etched fingerprint on the back?

Its kind of odd that this was the Navy standard as of mid 1942, but I have seen only a few tags that meet this standard fully.
