unidentified div signs

Article about: I picked up these div signs, no idea on them at al, looked through loads of books but still no luck.Both are for wear on kd - jg.both are velvet, one with metal device the other embroided. A

    I picked up these div signs, no idea on them at al, looked through loads of books but still no luck.Both are for wear on kd - jg.both are velvet, one with metal device the other embroided. Any ideas Nathan

    The axe looks like the Indian army 12 Infantry Division.unidentified div signs

    From a quick look they both look to be odd homemade variants of 78th infantry div, the battleaxe and 34th armoured brigade, but neither are quite right, and maybe post war versions. Though Gunny's answer of 12th Indian div looks more likely than 78th Div.

    As Jerry said about the 34th armoured brigade, i remember building a model British tank with that decal on it!...

    Hi thanks for input , I did think one was like the the 34th armoured but. Without the yelow stripe.I think you are spot on with the 12th indian division

    And though it is very good and I have long had it bookmarked it only covers WWII and is no good for post war, and for formation signs of other commonwealth nations. Better to invest in one of Cole's books either Heraldry of war, Badges on Battledress or Formation badges of WWII. And it is ripped from Heraldry in war.
