West Point insignia

I have found this pinback insignia that says West Point Academy,
but i have no idea what it is, if its some kind of insignia or graduation mark or something.
I think it is silver and the black "stone" is probably glass.
Can anyone tell me more about its age and or use?
If so I would be very thankfull.

Looks like it is from a ring.

Its way to big, it measures 31x25 mm (1 1/4 x 1 inch). And i think the needle is original, cant see very good on picture but its like a pin with clutchback.

I believe it's a lapel pin. Probably for wear in civilian clothes,
or a 'Sweetheart' item. The clutchback would be after
1927 or so but I'm leaning towards the 1950's.........
