Hi Gary, there is no real design differences between WW1 and WW2 issue badges. It only changed in 1949 to read AUSTRALIAN MILITARY FORCES.

Other more specialised collectors might be able to tell you more re slight makers variations.

    Cheers, Ade.

Thanks for looking Ade I was hoping that one would be able to tell one from another. Well at least it has a very good shot of being made pre war. Dave its my first didn't even know they made them with the slider. If you could post it that would be cool. Gary

    Hi Gary,
Here you go mate, hope you like it, I was once told that the ones with the slider were made by the British, but then someone came on and said they were made in Aus. so i really done know the truth about it. but either way they are very nice badges.
    Dave.

PS, one sold on Ebay, with a slider as W.W.1, for 51 pounds, a load of money i think but good on the seller.

I believe you have a WW1 model given the curve to the badge...sliders are also thought to have been issued to light horse units, but I font think this was a specific rule. There is no real difference between WW1 and 2, but I would put my money on this being a WW1 badge.......

Either way it is correct for both, and this one has seen a lot of polishing, old brassy in the crevices

More than likely the makers mark that's visible is Melbourne, there were two manufacturers in Melbourne.....one more thing I noticed is the line of dots at the top of the crown iscdifferentbon WW2 models. WW2 models seemntonhave the dots come to an end, whilst the WW1 dots come to an end on a small ledge.....i was just looking at a few of

I will post pics using my microscope camera letter
