hello everyone. I had just found out that I had a distant relative that was in the Italian Navy during ww2. when Italy surrendered, he looked to defect and was captured by the Germans. He eventually escaped German captivity and fled to America. He has just passed away and i would like to put a display together for my aunt. I have a feeling its the war merit cross but im not sure. help is always appreciated.

its ok, thank you for trying. one minute i look at it, it looks like the war merit cross. ill give it again and it looks like a long in command medal for NCO's medal. does anyone think its possible that it could be an unofficial medal?

He appears to be very young - likely only an EM. There is no detail
for me either, all I can make out is a ribbon of light or
    pale colouring.........

Maybe it's just me but I see 8 or 9 very thin slanted lines running down the ribbon.

I noticed these too Mo, but I think it is a 'dot matrix' effect, as there are
also thousands of little 'dots' all over the tunic.........
