    Hi Reibert,

I've never seen such dagger. Anyway it sounds strange to me its equipment of the SAN MARCO. Till 1943 the Rgt. (it was not a Brigade) has fought in the Eagean Sea Islands, in Greece and in Afrika for the defense of Tobruk. It belonged to the Regia Marina as FUCILIERI DI MARINA (a sort of marines) and was not a political unit. The dagger looks in full "fascist style" something that does not match with a REGIA MARINA's Corp (the navy was the most loyal to the king and less close to the fascist party). My one is just a personal consideration.

    Hi !

Till now I wasn´t really searching out for the history of the "San Marco".

For example I remembered this thread in the WAF:

Insignia of the San Marco WW2 - Wehrmacht-Awards.com Militaria Forums

There you can see the dagger on one of the drawings ...

Here some more pic´s of such dagger in an other thread, also in the WAF:

    Ade know´s the pic´s ...

Once again, I cannot say if it is original or not, but I still love the design! It does apear to have some genuine age to it though.

    Cheers, Ade.

    Thx. !

Another collector told me there´re three pattern´s of this knife.

My dagger should be the third Model.

This dagger indeed is extremly rare and there´re copy´s around.

In the www. I actually found almost nothing regarding this kind of dagger ...

    Cheers,

    R.

    Thx !

The "crossguard" of my dagger is "shorter", or "shortened", but it don´t looks broken ...

Maybe there´re distinctions pattern by pattern ?

    Cheers,

As reports the web site "Pugnale San Marco RSI" the dagger is indicated as "not standard" equipment for officials, sometimes combined to RSI San Marco Division pictures. I do not know that site and not even who posted that text (actually it is a market site).
To me the dagger looks possibly original of the italian period 1922 - 1945; I belive it could be a "customized item" for officials or Fascist Party subjects (both for PARTITO NAZIONALE FASCISTA or REPUBBLICA SOCIALE ITALIANA). What I am doubtfull is its distribution as standard equipment for the SAN MARCO, especially the one of RSI. In the period of exhistence of DIVISIONE SAN MARCO (1944 - 1945) the supply system was very short of resources so it seems almost impossible they had spent money to create any artistic item.
    Best Regards
