    Hello all,I thought I would post some pics of the very first Japanese sword I ever picked up.Not quite as impressive as a Type 98 but is does have a nice family Kamon of the Kondo Clan and a really nice company grade knot.It will always be special to me because it was "My First" Regards,Geoff

    I'm still new at collecting ... is the hamon and example of what is called acid-etched? It looks almost too perfect?

    Correct, not a real hamon.

    Thank you all for the kind comments! Ralph is correct in that the Hamon is a cosmetic feature.because of the blades plating it is not possible to have a true hamon so a false one was added for the appearance.I believe this was a "Deluxe " feature as these swords are encountered without a hamon as well.Regards,Geoff
