    It appears the Rikusentai commonly used private purchase backpacks based on the heavy variation in photos. There is an issued type made from 1943-45 but it doesn't really show up in any photos. I've also seen a backpack that looks similar to the private purchase ones, but dated 1942 with an actual IJN issue tag on it. It's definitely a subject I would like to learn more about, because in the Pacific and longer operations you can see a lot of varying backpacks and tube sacks with the Rikusentai.
