I must disagree. This is a genuine WW2 era Imperial Japanese Army officer's sword with a factory made blade signed by a worker named Masayuki. The kabutogani or top piece of the handle is not standard and may be a theatre made replacement for a broken handle.

Nothing about this sword makes me believe its the real deal, i saw swords that looked exactly like this on my recent trip to china, some had very convincing mei too. I do believe the piece in question is a fake, just my opinion but ive been wrong before.

I agree with Bob. I like the replacement kabutogani, I have not seen something like that before. The tang is seki arsenal stamped. Great piece of history!

Looking at this piece again i could be wrong, i think the pics threw me off a bit. More detailed pictures would definitely help. On another note, why on earth did someone paint over the fittings.....

This sword and many other military items are part of my fathers estate, left of course to my mom. These things were to be an investment, in hopes that my mom could sell them and live comfortably. Of course, before my father passed he loved collecting military items. If anyone has any idea as to a value, that would also be appreciated.
