Today must be a lucky day for navy helmet collectors, as I now also found official helmet color switching orders dated 5th June 1939, which said "As of this day, all helmets are to be painted in earth brown (褐色). Those already in use are to be repainted at the earliest convenience".

Default Finally, a photo of the very first Japanese Steel Helmet, the M1918

I finally found a photo of the M1918 helmet in an old book from 1934. At last that mystery is solved.

Slightly better photos from another copy of the same book. The large 3D army star in front is quite surprising and makes one wonder why they started the 1922 helmets without any emblems.

Here's a comparison between a Type 90 helmet and a bullet proof Type 98 helmet, which otherwise looks like a civil defense helmet in general shape. You don't realize how impossibly heavy 2.5 kgs is until you hold it. One needs to have a neck like a bull to wear that weight on the head for any length of time.

I've read through this a few times and couldn't find the information.

Is there a model 32 helmet? Came across one on EBay but it looks like a type 90.

No, there was no such helmet with that designation. Some confused people who don't seem to know how to count call the Type 90 a 92 (or M32) out of sheer ignorance, like this Wikipedia article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unifor...e_Army#Helmets

    Thanks. That's what I thought.

Probably going to sell for twice as much as people will think it's some super rare item.
