Article about: These are new to me, but have seen a few about. Any info on these would be appreciated. Said that they are disposable food containers, for civil and military use,made during war time.

    Hi Visor-san,

    The emergency food ration {防衛食(Boueishoku) - Protection Food} were emerged during late war in Japan (around 1943). They have to use ceramics to replace precious metals. There should be some other markings (outside)under the container. I think you example should have a circle with the character with a 2 underneath. To open when sealed, make a hole in the center of the cover. There are also many different kinds of contents, based on the numbers.

    So far I've seen 13,15, and 2.
