Help with Tang Translation

I really appreciate all the help I wanted to add a few more photos.The tang as well as having the typical black painted bench/assembly numbers also has the numbers 58 in red paint near the tip of the nakago I have never seen this before any Ideas?? Thanks,Geoff

I'm guessing at the 十六 (16) -- I thought the 六 was 元 because of the upturned leg; but that explanation doesn't fit. 99% certain it is 16.

It looks more like "九"instead of "六"。This is type 44 NLF GUNTO,1944(昭和十九年)seem to fit the bill。
