As you can see in the spec Dwg in post 5, there was a 75mm slit at the armpit of a Type 98/3 summer tunic, but tropical side slits are much more dramatic like shown below.
Along with the M42 tropical tunic, they also launched a mix of tropical and summer items that may all be mistaken as tropical. Here's the rest of the 1942 lineup and an example of a summer shirt (not tropical) from my closet. Note how big the side slits are.
