    Default IJA Tropical tunic?

Just picked this one up today.

At first, I thought it was a tropical tunic, but when I checked my reference it said all tropical tunics had the buttoned flap beneath the open armpit.

This tunic just has the open armpit, and the belt/sword strap.

I could not find an example of this tunic in Hewitt's book.

It is very well worn, and lightweight, with extensive repairs to the collar area in particular.

The button on the strap appears to be a replacement.

Hoping someone may be able to help with an id.

Any info offered would be greatly appreciated.

    Regards

    Russ

Apologies for the orientation, I don't know how that happened... !

And I don't know how to fix it!

That is a standard Type 98 summer uniform, not the tropical version introduced in April 1942 with flaps at the armpits.

Thank you Nick. I guess I must have missed it in the book. I will look again!

    Thanks again Nick!

Yes, I went through the book again and found the Type 98 tunic. Not really any descriptions on the particular Types and couldn’t see the armpit vents in the pic shown. So your illustration is appreciated!
