I came across this sword and i most say i like it very much.
Im the second in line to buy this one, so hopefully i get my shot at it.

Is it possible to indentify the Characters on the tang and make out by who and when it have been made?
The ad says its a 18th century Katana, i know the Pics arent that great, but they have to do!
So any help will be highly appreciated!
A value would be helpfull so i can estimate my final bid!
    Thx Gents,
    Ger

Between trying to read the kanji sideways and characters that are out of focus, reading the kanji is mission impossible for me. It is definitely a WW2 era blade as the style of writing confirms that. The blade appears to be a standard factory made blade that is not made in the traditional method.

    Hi Ger,

Looks like a standard Type 98 mounting as can be seen here ...

‹ã”ªŽ®ŒR“–ÚŽŸ Army Type 98 military swords (Gunto)

Chances of it being more than Bob suggests are slim but that's not a bad thing. It's still a good example of an IJA Officer sword from WW2 period.

Better pics would sure assist in the evaluation. Without them I'd not offer more than 800 USD based on what I see so far.

    Regards,
    Stu

    UREKA!!!

    正義
    Seki Takeshi Masayoshi Omi
Takeshi Masayoshi of Seki [city]. "no Omi" is a court rank, according to my online dictionary: "Omi (hereditary title; orig. one of the two highest such titles, later demoted to sixth highest of eight)..."

    Showa-era: 1926~1945

    Here's another

I had a feeling you would come through on a reading even with the poor pictures. Nice job!

    youve does a great job!

So he is a swords smith with a court rank?
knowing who made it does that also tells the way its made?
Is this a handmade blade in the traditional way or is it machine made?

    Regards,
    Ger

    Hello Ger-
I do not know what you mean by a "court rank" If you are referring to the honorary title such as "kami" used in the Edo period, there were no Japanese swordsmiths given such a title since the Hattori in the Meiji period. From the pictures, I have no doubt it is a factory made blade and not a traditional folded and water tempered blade. I would expect any true gendaito to be dated.
