Prices on these Model 1883 Imperial navy Dirks are all over the board. The can sell as cheaply as, say, $600 and as high as, maybe, $4500(this would have to be a Very special piece, though!) One similar to yours that I saw of late sold for $1695. Paul over at Lakeside Trader has one for sale at $1250, so, as you can see, there is no simple straight value answer. Personally, I wouldn't take anything less than a grand for it, though-but that's just me.

Hi Gel , your dirk has the earlier Meiji period fittings and i love the patina , normally examples of this period have more " upmarket " private purchase scabbards that used a polished rayskin covering which made the piece stand out beautifully , and there were examples that occasionally had old/hand made blades also . These of course were top of the range items , the scabbard you show is a standard leather version . I cant comment on the blade as better close up photos are reqd. but it looks to be in quite bad shape from what i can see . Blade condition is king with edged weapons collectors so i would not like to approximate a value .

ID:	406899Hello , its a meiji- taisho period navy dirk. Early one. Nice with the big noddles on the same , i have not seen that before. The hangers are not original to the dagger ,not japanese.
The dirks normally seen on ebay/web is showa period , they have a closed kashira (end of the handle) yours have a open design and hand engraved sakura blossoms and leafs design on the fittings. Showa types are more simple in the motifs design.Nice dirk and price.congrats.

The first dirk in the picture is near same as yours.
Second one is showa deluxe .
    Third one is showa.
Last one is showa with old tanto blade from prox. 1550.
