Default Japanese soldiers trench art cigarette case

I found this at an antiques fair in the UK for £2.

It is made from a late war 1944/45 British Pacific 24 hour ration tin lid taken from the Breakfast pack. The Japanese soldier has cut and folded it into a small cigarette case.

I got a Japanese friend to translate the words:

He told me it says "Memories of Hong Kong"

    Cheers, Ade.

Hi Adrian , would you agree theres not much Japanese stuff floating around compared with other countries militaria ,i dont generaly bother with the Japanese stuff but a couple of years back i had the chance to get a Japanese helmet , only the shell, it was with a , m16 , a Americam helmet , and a felt type Bavarian hat with an emblem sewn on the front , any way the whole lot cost me $100 , at that price i had the old wallet fairly quick . cheers Raymond

Hi Raymond, I don't collect Japanese items as such. In fact, I have now shown all the items I have, bar a couple of collar tabs. All were bought cheaply here in the UK. But they are not common here. I must admit I would like a Sword though.

    Cheers, Ade.

    Nice job Ade

That is a neat bit of WW2 Japanese trench art.
So what time frame would that have been from?

The tin interesting item. For some reason British items from soldiers in Asia always caught my attention since most people think only Americans were serving there.

It seems that you've put a great amount of time into your post and I want a lot more of these on the internet these days. Well, anyways... it certainly was very informative for me.
