I get the feeling that this is a put together sword. Some of the pieces do not really fit together.

I agree. At the best it was assembled in time of great need and limited supply. At worst it's a complete parts (gunto and civilian) piece. I'd not pay more than 150 USD for the works and even then I'd want to have a better look at the Company Grade IJA Officer tassel and the civilian type tsuba before parting with my cash.
