Japanese Sword

Article about: Chaps, this sword is in our museum, it was presented to one of our officers when the Japanese surrendered. I have asked the curator for more pics. But from these two can anyone give any info

    I'll add that if you do find kanji on the blade they need to be photographed in a vertical position as if the tip of the blade was uppermost. I'll attach an example.

    PS: Don't anyone try to translate this mei ... it's gimei (fake) ... I'm just using the photo for an example.
