    Default Japanese Sword. info please

I acquired some information off a dealer at an arms fair about the sword a couple of years ago but I have misplaced the paper I wrote in on, to be honest half of what he told me went straight over my head. He did say the blade was either 15th or 16th century, He took the handle off but there was nothing on the tang the blade is about 28 inches in length.

    Thanks z4.

Hi z4 , i agree with what you have been told about your sword , the fittings are of high quality and the patina and wear it shows is super . Regarding the blade it shows all the traits of being a koto blade , many of these old blades were unsigned , thanks for showing it .

One sure way to tell if the blade is an old one the end of the sword will be much more narrow than the base. About half the width.

Not too sure what you mean Steve, the blade measure 27mm deep near the handle and 18mm just before the blade rounds off to the point.

Nice. Excellent quality fittings, while the swords shape (especially the kissaki) does suggest an older blade. Needs some TLC, though....can you photograph the tang, please?

Mark, I cannot remove the handle it is very tight. Where would I get a valuation on this sword.

    Thanks z4

Alan, The dealer made an offer on the sword even though I told him It was not for sale before he inspected it. I did not know the dealer at the time but have heard since he is ok, but when a dealer makes you an offer most people think what is the item really worth but I suppose its worth what some one is prepared to give you.

Hi z4 , you are right , the market set`s the price , that`s why i always hesitate to give valuations.... i think of my estimates as just a helpful aid
