    Hi,
I just acquired this Vet bring back Japanese sword.
But I do Not know anything about it!
Can you guys tell me about this sword? (Age, Possible value, hand made? Etc)
It is in Excellent Condition and came with a tag that says it cleared G-2 Intelligence. (that’s pretty cool)
This sword was taken from a Japanese solider by a USMC staff sgt in China in October of 1945 at their surrender.

    Many Many thanks

It's upside down, but the signature is for Nobumitsu, a Seki smith.

It is a typical machine made blade found in the 1944 pattern IJA officer mounts. All blades found in this pattern with the steel scabbard are factory made blades. There is a model of this mounting that has a rough lacquer wood scabbard and a lacquered handle wrap. This variation always contains hand made blades from 1944 or 1945. The materials for the officer mountings was changed to conserve war required materials.

Why is this always the next question? The Forum is not a free appraisal service.

    Thank You Guys!!

I realize the value of a sword like this is really in it’s history.
Unfortunately my finances do not allow me to keep this sword.
BOB I ask value as a guide so I don’t get taken by the people who give collecting these items a bad name.

We have a continuing pattern of new members who come here, ask what they have, then ask value and are never heard from again. This is a pattern of behavior that has become quite tiresome to the moderators. We volunteer our time here to educate and not to become a free evaluating service. No one wants to feel that they are being used.
