Exclamation Re: Japanese WW2 sword found

I am not 100% sure of this piece's authenticity. The engraving on the blade seems a bit crude.

Looks like a Chinese fake, a good one at that. I studied Nihonto for about 4 years from 2002 to 2006, even got to know one of the Toshos in japan.

I say its a fake based on a few things, the furniture is wrong, the Nakago is clealy artificialy aged (its a completely different look and color to a real aged nakago)

non existant yasuri me, the horimono is crude and far to bright, the hamon well its dodgy to put it bluntly mate. All in all a fairly good chinese fake.

    have a good one -

Thumbs down Re: Japanese WW2 sword found

    Whoa Nellie....

There is no place for such a response on serious forums. Agree to disagree... but don't get so riled up. It is either real or it's not. No big deal... Frankly I think the carvings look a bit crude... but if it's a wartime showa blade maybe all the good guys were over on Iwo at the time. Keep your anger to yourself and use spellcheck
