The first one could mean "up". My wife is not sure though. She can't make out the second character.

    Sorry, best I can do.

... What does the literal translation mean?
    Hi Phil,

It is a family name derived from a location. I am presuming the Kamimizo name derived from someone who lived "above a rift" or "above a ditch/split/crevice"; not unlike the family name "Yamash!ta" derives from someone who lived "below the mountain."

Thank you Guy, I understand the concept but sometimes need that personnel touch to get the explanation to understand it.
I appreciate your reply. Thanks again!

    Thanks Guy,

It was late. The wife was falling asleep when I asked her and was looking at the picture from a small cell phone screen. So lucky I got a response at all and not kicked out of the bed. LoL
