Military Whistle?

Hello gents,


My friend got this river find peculiar whistle. It's pewter made and as you can see below, there's inscription "Japan" on it.




So is this a military issue whistle? And from what year this whistle was made?

Hard to say if its military. Just because it's marked Japan doesn't mean it's military. Usually a sign it was intended for export

You can rule out military, if it says "Japan". Here's how a navy whistle was marked. The postwar version used by the MSDF does say "Japan" however.

Here's a whistle that is part of a NCO tassel i have. I believe it is Military issue and only the second one i have come across in 40 yrs.
