    Hi Tom
I`ll try and do a drawing of the stamp but the silk is frayed a bit in that area , and as you say , some kanji has been written over one corner but i`ll see what i can do , i`d love to know the name of the shrine

    Alan,

Believe I have deciphered the stamp characters and the following is my translation of what I can make out.

(I think the red stamp says) Yamauchi Jinja (shrine). (This shrine is located in Kochi Prefecture on the island of Shikoku, approximately 120 miles from Osaka. I cannot find any connection with the shrine and Osaka and the two schools.)
(Upper RH vertical writing) Praying for Continued Good Fortunes of War (Other than this, the flag appears not seem to have the normal exhortations and good wishes.)

(Lower RH edge) Osaka Foreign Language School Patriotic Corps (forerunner of the present Osaka Foreign Language University and also located in the same Tennoji Ward as the middle school below)

(Diagonal toward lower RH corner) YAMAUCHI Hiroyuki

(Vertical column next to the meatball) Osaka Prefecture Tennoji Middle School (middle schools at the time were prep schools for universities with graduates close to military age.)

(Moving from right to left) OBATA Kojiro (can also be read) KOBATA Kojiro

    SUZUKI Kentaro

    FUJII Keiichi

    TERAMURA Koei

    FUJIWARA Yasuo

    FUJIWARA Sanzo

(1st character unreadable) (2nd read as) SHIMA or JIMA (3rd character unreadable) zo

(5 big dark characters at approx 6:15) ARITA Tomonosuke

    TSUDA Yuji

    SONODA Tomotsugi

    KATAMURA Choji

    SHODA Zensaburo

    MIZUKI (name indistinct)

(To the lower LH corner) FUJIMOTO Toshio

(Family name (1st character) is probably read) KEN Atsuyoshi

    NAGAMURA Ikutaro

    MICHITA Ichiro

    MIZUOKA Kunio

    (Unreadable)

    YUTAKUDA Yoneji

(1st character discolored/distorted but believe it is (HIRA)) HIRATA (3rd character indistinct) io

    (completely unreadable)

    (completely unreadable)

    YAMAGUCHI Yoshio

    OKU Ichiro

    SHIMIZU Norio

Hope the above is up to your expectations. I'm starting to suspect that you are a curator of WWII Pacific relics museum :-)

    Alan,

Glad to help as long as you don't have strict time requirements. Translation is not the only thing I do,

Hi Tom , time is not an issue at all , i totally understand how much time is involved in a project like this and that translations must be done in your time as and when you can spare it ( but i must admit i do start getting fidgety in anticipation of the results of your readings )
    thanks a bunch Tom ,

    Alan,

This is a memento of the 79th Infantry Regiment. The scribbly portion (gold writing on brown placard) will take some time and I may not be able to decipher all of it.
