    Hi Gabe,

It looks like a civic helmet helmet to me... Any photos of the liner? The star certainly isn't is Imperial Japanese Army.

    Hi Gabe,

I suspect that this helmet is for civic use. Only the chinstrap appears to be close to what the IJA/IJN used.

Here are some photos of my IJA helmet:

FYI they did use stars like that early on but they are very uncommon, so most helmets with stars like that are probably additions.

Interesting helmet, I would also say it is civil defense, but I have not seen one with leather liner before.
I think it is original, and it is unfortunate that there is so little information available on these helmets.

Belonged to Inoue [I-no-ue: above the well]. The "no" is implied, not written.

    Inside the helmet:
    井上
    Inoue

    Along the rim:
    岐阜 [県] 井上 千手堂、南、四
Gifu [-ken] Inoue Senjudō Minami, Yon

Gifu [Prefecture], Inoue, Senju Shrine, South, Four

    REGARDS AL

We are the Pilgrims , master, we shall go
Always a little further : it may be
Beyond that last blue mountain barred with snow
Across that angry or that glimmering sea...
