Hi Guys this is a new acquisition for me.
I'm trying to figure out if this is authentic and if so whom the sword smith may be.
Sword feels and looks good based on my limited knowledge, sword is tight.
Only one side of the blade is marked.
That was the BEST picture I could get of the characters on the blade.
I also wonder if the Blade Collar could be silver it "appears to be".
Blade is nice sword has some issues with scabbard and locking device MIA
Any general Info would be great as I am always learning in this forum.

Thank you guys I really appreciate the help

I have flipped the picture of the nakago (tang) the right way round so the kanji translation will be easier.

Just from these pictures I would say it is a type 98 IJA officers shin gunto katana, The habaki looks to be made of silver and the saya has a leather combat cover.

Not certain, but it looks like Kojima Kanemichi to me. The "kane" part is not readable, but I searched using "小島 道" and found

    小島兼道

Perhaps one of our in-house experts can compare your sword's signature to Kanemichi's oshigata here:

I'm NOT saying your sword is Kanemichi .... but IF it is .... More info HERE.

Here's Kanemichi standing to the right of swordmaster Nakayama Hakudo:

I agree with Guy that the signature is Kojima Kanemichi. The signature is poorly cut leading me to believe this is a Showato and not a true gendaito. AOnly a hands on examination will determine which it is. The habaki is likely silver foil over copper as solid silver was seldom used.
