I know its a tread about military cups, but i hope it is ok to post a picture of some child bowls with military tema. I think they relate in some way to the adult military china as they were for the kids that were growing up in that era.

Edit: Why do VigLink make a link to Ebay in this post?

With a photo like that even if they were in English, you'd still have no idea what's written on them.

Got a pair of sake flasks a week ago, quite pretty, seem to be shaped like shells. The attribution kanji are very worn, but on the one can be made out. The left-hand string is the usual discharge commemoration, JO TAI KI NEN, but how about the first 2 kanji (is the second one maru)? Have seen the identical 6 kanji on a cup in Dan King's book, that cup had the badge for the Naval Combat Engineers.
Also is the mark on the base a manufacturer (sorry it is not so clear)?
    Cheers,
    Tony

The faint marking on the bottom is "patent pending" and the first two kanji read "9th Engineers".

Naruhodo! Thanks for that Nick. Would 9th Engineers be a Naval Combat Engineers unit or could it also be army engineers?

Army, note also the army star.
