    It appears to be a Chinese copy.

    Steve that's what I was thinking but its got some age to it and has some good weight to it . thanks for looking. Gary

    For future reference, a genuine Japanese blade always has a well shaped Nakago or tang, continuing the section of the blade.

    Maybe something made by occupied lands, Java, Malaysia, etc, but not Japanese made.

    The nakago appears to have been reshaped at one point. Possibly due to damage as that would be the only reason to do so. From your images, it appears to be a Japanese made blade of poor construction likely mass produced and altered. A weak blade that is not worth investing any money in.
