translation on naval canteen

While putting the canteen in the safe I found another inscription on the shoulder strap. I know the inscription is hard to read. Thanks from the help. Oh, and yes this is the same canteen with the inscription on the front that I recently posted. Marty

I cannot make out the given name ... something like "Ichinese"???

But I'm really just guessing. 一 can also be "Kazu" or "Hito"

Thanks for the help with the translation. It's kind of weird finding out the name and that the canteen probably belonged to one of the soldier found dead upstream from where Mr. Finn and his crew were bathing. Again thanks for the help. Happy New Year Marty

Update on first name, his first name is Ichiro. So this man who died on a small island in the Philippines will not be forgotten.
I have a friend who’s mother is Japanese and still lives there and was helpful with the first name.

Right, and if 一郎 [Ichirō] was written in katakana, it would be イチロー.

To me it still looks like 一ﾈセ ... but that's mixing a kanji 一 with katakana ﾈセ.... which ain't right!

It is surely just an abbreviated navy rank designation rather than a first name, judging how it begins with "1" for first class.
